Re-inventing how goods and materials are produced
More Info Hide InfoObjective
We were approached by the Berlin-based venture investment fund BlueYard that endorses transforming, impactful ideas for humanity. BlueYard connected us to Jens Klein, the founder of Origin Bio, which is perceived as the first highly
promising synthetic biology company from Germany. They asked us to help them develop the company’s visual expression including the logo, accompany them in building the messaging for their pitch desk as well as conceptualize, design and code the webpage.
Methodology
As we do for the majority of our projects, we conducted several two-hour stakeholder interviews with both the founder of BlueYard and Origin Bio. The intention was to establish common ground and work towards a shared understanding of the managers’ visions and goals. Thanks to the last five years that we have been spending consulting key players within
the field of synthetic biology on a global scale, we could draw on the perfect overview that we have gained of the market opportunities, targets and competition. As a result, there was no further deep dive necessary.
Output
We opted for a fresh color combination by using a bright and bold green and blue. Although both colors are quite dominant within the biotech segment, we succeeded in establishing a differentiating colour code based on the upbeat and gradient colour perspective. Since there is today a trend towards foregoing an elaborate figurative mark, we decided in favor of a simple typo logo equipped yet with a meaningful twist thanks to the superscript “Bio”. The latter serves not only as a kind of imprint or hallmark, but also refers to Origin Bio’s raison d’être that lies in the purpose of growing biotechnologies exponentially (“scaling to the power of biology”). We eventually created and built a dynamic webpage which, under the form of a one-pager, tells in one strand the proprietary story of Origin Bio. One striking feature of the webpage constitutes an iconic mark that we developed out of the company’s new logo and that provides orientation within the site’s menu.
